Improving online security is not law enforcement’s duty alone. Online users, more than anyone else has important parts in winning this war. Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman encouraged users to report suspected online security breach immediately. The Federal Trade Commission has an online form affidavit for cases like this. Once a user has suspected an online theft, it is advisable to freeze all credit cards by notifying the card’s issuing bank. Monitor credit card details and expenses to spot any irregularity. Cases are reported to Equifax, Transunion or Experian. Changing passwords and usernames frequently can also help in improving online security. The last but not the least, creates strong and creative passwords.
